Youth Suicide

In the United States:

  • the rate of suicide among young people aged 15-25 has tripled in the past 60 years.
  • suicide is the 2nd major cause of death among college students.
  • 25% of students are preoccupied with suicide at some point while in high school or college.
  • 8-10% of students attempt suicide during these years. Those who do are at ten times greater risk for future suicide.
  • depression is more common among young women than among young men.
  • young women attempt suicide two to three times as often as males.
  • young men their own lives four times as often as young women.
